Most American voters oppose raising the national debt limit, and think talk of missed Social Security checks is just a scare tactic. Voters are optimistic that a debt deal will be made soon, and if it isn’t they will blame both Republicans and Democrats.

The Congressional Budget Office issued (another) grim forecast today regarding the long-term outlook of the federal budget. According to a new CBO report, U.S. public debt is set to exceed 100 percent of GDP in 2021, and reach 200 percent of GDP in 2037 if nothing is done to change its current trajectory, a significantly worse projection than was issued in last year’s CBO report.
This year alone, the CBO projects that public debt will reach 70 percent of GDP, up from 62 percent at the end of fiscal year 2010. The historical average for the U.S. is about 20 percent.

In the past two years, Americans have become increasingly likely to describe the Democratic Party's views as "too liberal" (49%), and less likely to say its views are "about right" (38%).

More than half of Americans think President Barack Obama’s response to the oil spill off the Gulf Coast has been “poor” or “very poor,” according to a new USA Today/Gallup poll out Thursday. Obama got higher marks than the federal government as whole and BP in handling the spill, but 53 percent of the 1,049 adults polled nationwide gave the president a low rating for his response.

Today, FRC Action, the legislative action arm of Family Research Council, released the results of a commissioned national survey showing that the American people by a 3 to 1 overwhelming majority say that military leaders should make the decision on whether or not homosexuals should serve openly in the military.

A growing number of Americans want to repeal the national health care plan, commonly referred to as ObamaCare. The latest Rasmussen Reports survey found that sixty-three percent (63%) of Americans want the Democrats passage of the bill and President Obama’s signature of the law last March to be undone.

An Internet poll sponsored by Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, in conjunction with his recent article, "From an old-school conservative, advice for the tea party," online, showed overwhelming opposition to a conversion of the Tea Party movement into a political party. The poll of 736 respondents showed only 11.8% thought the Tea Party should become a political party.
